Winter stationery

A new notebook in February is a small rebellion against the long grey middle of the year. The paper is cream, the lines are faint, and the first page is, as always, the hardest.

The notebook

A5, soft cover, 120gsm cream paper. The kind of notebook that doesn’t argue with a fountain pen. I bought two — one to use and one to keep in the drawer for when the first runs out.

The first page

I used to leave the first page blank, as if waiting for it to earn its place. Now I just write the date and a single sentence. The notebook becomes a notebook the moment something is written in it.
