Sentences overheard in January

A small collection of fragments caught on trains, in cafés, and once at a bus stop in the rain. None of them are mine. All of them are kept.

On the train

“He’s the kind of person who alphabetises his regrets.” Two women, opposite seat, somewhere between Reading and Didcot.

In the café

“I think I only like January because nobody expects anything of it.” Man at the next table, to no one in particular.
